Janaki Mandir, also known as Nau Lakha Mandir, is one of the most significant Hindu temples in Nepal. Built in 1910 by Queen Vrisha Bhanu of Tikamgarh at a cost of nine lakh rupees (hence "Nau Lakha"), this magnificent three-story structure is a stunning blend of Mughal and Koiri architectural styles. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Sita (Janaki), who is believed to have been born in Janakpur. The temple complex spans 1,480 square meters and features 60 rooms, each decorated with intricate Mithila paintings, colored glass, engravings, and beautiful lattice windows. The central sanctum houses the idol of Sita, flanked by Rama, Lakshman, Bharat, and Satrughan. The temple is not just a religious site but a living symbol of Mithila's cultural identity, attracting millions of pilgrims annually, especially during Vivah Panchami and Ram Navami.
